About Us

So you may be thinking right at this very moment, "Why should I care?" While I can't answer that for you, I can tell you what Flying Furballs is all about.

Admittedly, I am one of so many, sharing bits and pieces of my life with the world. However, I believe it to be an eclectic collection of ramblings.

As much as there are rants, musings, and soap boxes for climbing, most of all I love to have conversations with people, and it is my hope that this blog will be a jumping point.

While this blog isn't about one specific topic, because I have Type 1 diabetes, and have been dealing with this annoying disease for over 2 decades, many of the posts will be about diabetes because it touches on my life, just about each moment of every day at some level. Diabetes has given me insight into what it's like to live with a chronic and very chaotic disease, which can range from mildly annoying, often amusing, and downright scary.

So by writing about what touches my life, I hope that it also touches others in some way. In my ramblings, I hope to give my good readers a little insight as to what I struggle with, and perhaps (hopefully) help someone else who is struggling, even if it is a shared "Me Too" moment.

Through this blog, I also hope to help dispel myths about diabetes, because the information "out there" about diabetes is so often outdated, misinformed, or just plain wrong. That's not to say that know everything and deal with diabetes the right way, because I make mistakes each and every day. These are my learning moments, and I will share them with you. I want to hear from others who live the "D" life. I not only speak out as part of the Diabetes Online Community (#DOC and #dsma in Twitter), but I also want to reach out to others who are struggling to live this life with this "invisible" disability.

There's more though because I live with disability too - however, not through my own eyes. I see it through my husband's eyes. In our house, we often see the world through the lens of disability. I do not speak for him, for he is fully capable of doing that for himself, as he is a broadcaster and is quite vocal about his own needs and challenges. But what I do see are challenges that those living life with this "visible" disability.

I welcome you to lurk as much as you like, and comment if you feel moved to do so. I will try to answer whenever I can too.
